Client Installation & Setup
Installing new clients is always fun, except when your doing it on 50 machines.. :) But it is actually
a fairly simple procedure. The following is for a typical installation of a Win32 GUI client, but it is pretty similar
for all platforms. This also assumes that the person doing the installing is a relative newbie to the team. You should be online before
starting this installation procedure.
- Download the latest version of the client for your OS.
- Assuming you got the GUI client, you should have download a .exe file. Run that file now. The
installation program will execute. Set the directory to c:\program files\rc5.
- After the installation is completed, if you didn't specify the client to start up, run it now.
- The client's configuration screen should come up. Input your email address on the first field.
Under the buffers tab, set them to a minimum of 100. Generally faster cpu's and computers that are rarely on the internet
should have high buffers. If you have a dedicated permanent 24/7 internet connection, do not set the buffers over 25. Under
the CPU tab, select your CPU type. If you don't know, select Autodetect. If you have multiple CPU's, then specify that. Do not
change the priority setting. On the startup tab, make sure that Automatically launch as startup service is enabled.
- If you are on a dial up modem connection, click the Enable Lurk Mode option. If your on a permanent connection, leave it
at Online Mode.
Well thats about it.. Enjoy!
